Welcome to The Swan Inn!
The Swan at Great Easton is a delightful, privately owned Freehouse situated 3 miles north of Dunmow off the B184 towards Thaxted.

Dating from the fifteenth century The Swan retains a wealth of original features with a heavily oak-beamed lounge bar and large inglenook fireplace.

This friendly and welcoming village pub-restaurant is owned and run by David and Karen Scott who bought it in October 2002. Since then, they have transformed it, creating the comfortable environment you find today. In particular, there is the cosy lounge bar with a log-burning stove, deep, comfortable sofas and armchairs, as well as the welcoming beamed restaurant overlooking the pretty well-kept garden.

The Swan is now one of a dying breed: a privately owned Freehouse, actually run by its owners. You will find exceptional food and service in a relaxed and friendly environment. Their hard work and dedication to running this now widely well-reputed establishment has meant that David and Karen have taken The Swan into the prestigious CAMRA Good Beer Guide for the second year running and also the CAMRA Good Pub Food Guide.

David is the Chef and Karen works front of house - behind the bar and in the restaurant. In between times, they have a young family to manage – Ben is five years old, and Beth is three.

Upstairs, there are four superbly appointed bedrooms for guests. All are individually furnished and have private en-suite facilities. Click on ‘Accommodation’ to view them. The accompaniments and furnishings you will find in the rooms really do take The Swan into the luxury bracket; seriously rivalling the boxy, impersonal and overpriced chain hotels at nearby Stansted, and the breakfasts are frankly marvellous with homemade marmalade and jam served with freshly baked croissants.

All ingredients in the dishes you will enjoy at The Swan are fresh, and every meal is prepared to order. All of the soups, sauces, chutneys, desserts, chips and even the delicious chocolate truffles served with coffee are entirely homemade. Using high quality local produce is of primary importance at The Swan Great Easton. You will find sausages on the menu made from pork reared less than 3 miles away. Meat is delivered fresh daily from a renowned local butcher. Fruit, vegetables and dairy produce, similarly, are sourced by a local company and delivered daily. (You will NEVER see a frozen produce company delivering to The Swan at Great Easton as long as David and Karen are there!)

Equal pride is taken in the cellar at The Swan and you will find particularly well-kept quality real ales (Admans Bitter and a host of constantly changing guest ales including Woodforde’s Wherry, Timothy Taylors Landlord, Fullers London Pride, Nethergate Suffolk County to name but a few.
A separate games bar offers a third public area (pool, darts, cribbage). The Swan is a destination food pub as well as being a traditional village local at the centre of the community and popular with all generations. The first-class menu includes traditional fare as well as more elaborate dishes, with lighter bar snacks available at lunchtimes (excluding Sunday, as the fabulous Sunday roasts here are so popular!).  Sausages with mustard mash and onion gravy is a particular favourite, as is the consistently fabulous fillet steak sourced daily from a renowned local butcher.

David and Karen know that they could not operate smoothly without their very fabulous, friendly, faithful and obliging staff. You are most likely to meet Jo, Katy, Aby, Lizzy or Matt amongst others. All will be more than happy to help you with any query or request. Or ask to speak to the owners in person – one or both of them is usually about.

Why not enjoy a visit to The Swan at Great Easton?
You’ll most certainly be inspired to return again and again~ as do many already.
